Virat Kohli’s Century Powers RCB to Crucial Win Over KKR in IPL 2026

Virat Kohli’s Century Powers RCB Closer to IPL 2026 Playoffs

Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru climbed back to the top of the IPL 2026 points table after Virat Kohli produced another masterclass in a pressure chase against Kolkata Knight Riders in Raipur. Kohli’s unbeaten 105 off 60 balls guided RCB to a six-wicket victory while chasing 193, keeping their playoff destiny firmly in their own hands.

The win also took RCB to 16 points, a mark that has historically guaranteed qualification in a 10-team IPL season. For KKR, however, the defeat was a major setback, ending their four-match winning streak and leaving their playoff hopes dependent on other results.

Kohli Responds in Style After Back-to-Back Ducks

Coming into the match, all eyes were on Kohli after consecutive ducks in his previous two innings. The RCB superstar answered in trademark fashion with his ninth IPL century and third hundred while chasing.

Kohli began aggressively against Vaibhav Arora, striking multiple boundaries early to quickly regain rhythm. A dropped chance on 21 by Rovman Powell proved costly as Kohli settled into complete control of the chase.

Unlike a typical power-hitting T20 innings, Kohli built the chase with precision and composure. Of his 105 runs, 43 came through singles and twos, constantly rotating strike and ensuring the required run rate never became an issue.

After the match, Kohli admitted the pressure of recent failures pushed him to work harder.

“Pressure is a privilege. It keeps you humble, focused, and hungry to improve,” Kohli said after receiving the Player of the Match award.

The innings also saw Kohli become the fastest batter to complete 14,000 T20 runs.

Padikkal Partnership Breaks KKR’s Momentum

Devdutt Padikkal played the perfect supporting role with a fluent 39 off 27 balls. Together, Kohli and Padikkal stitched a crucial 92-run partnership that effectively took the game away from KKR.

Padikkal later revealed that the plan was not to rush the chase but to bat deep and avoid the collapses that had hurt RCB in recent matches.

Even against Sunil Narine’s tight spell, the pair remained calm, focusing on strike rotation rather than risky attacking shots. Their partnership ensured RCB stayed ahead throughout the chase.

Raghuvanshi and Rinku Shine for KKR

Earlier in the evening, KKR posted a competitive 192/4 after impressive performances from Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Rinku Singh.

Raghuvanshi scored a classy 71 off 46 balls, showcasing excellent timing and maturity at No.3. He handled both pace and spin comfortably, playing elegant pulls, sweeps, and lofted drives during his innings.

Rinku Singh once again played the finisher’s role brilliantly, remaining unbeaten on 49 off 29 balls. Interestingly, much of Rinku’s scoring came through hard-running between the wickets as he collected seven doubles during the death overs.

However, KKR failed to fully capitalize in the final overs due to disciplined bowling from Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood. The duo restricted boundary opportunities and kept the total below the 200-run mark.

Bhuvneshwar Delivers Another Key Spell

RCB’s bowling attack once again relied heavily on veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He dismissed the dangerous Finn Allen during the PowerPlay and controlled the scoring in the death overs.

Bhuvneshwar has now emerged as RCB’s leading wicket-taker this season and continues to be one of the most consistent bowlers in IPL 2026.

Although KKR managed a strong PowerPlay, RCB’s experienced pace attack ensured they never completely lost control of the innings.

IPL 2026 Playoff Race Intensifies

With the victory, RCB joined Gujarat Titans on 16 points at the top of the table. Another win in their remaining two matches would officially confirm their playoff qualification and potentially secure a top-two finish.

KKR’s situation, meanwhile, has become far more complicated. Even if they win all three remaining matches, they can only reach 15 points and must now rely on favorable outcomes elsewhere.
