Manchester Super Giants Win Maiden Men’s Hundred Title After Tim Seifert Heroics
Manchester Super Giants finally ended their long wait for silverware as they defeated Trent Rockets by five wickets in a dramatic Men’s Hundred final at Lord’s.
After losing the 2022 final to Trent Rockets and the 2023 final to Oval Invincibles, the franchise — previously known as Manchester Originals — finally went all the way. Tim Seifert produced the decisive performance, smashing 72 from just 38 balls as Manchester Super Giants chased down 159 with two balls remaining.

The victory also completed a remarkable turnaround for the Super Giants, who had been on the verge of elimination after losing three consecutive group matches. They responded with five straight wins to claim their first Hundred title.
Tim Seifert Leads Manchester Super Giants to Glory
Chasing 159, Manchester Super Giants made an explosive start through Seifert and Paul Walter.
Seifert immediately attacked Mohammad Amir, taking 14 runs from the opening five deliveries he faced. Walter provided excellent support, and the pair added 66 runs from just 31 balls to put the chase firmly in Manchester's control.
Walter scored a quick 22 from 14 deliveries before falling, but Seifert continued his assault.
The New Zealand batter reached his half-century from only 24 balls, becoming the fastest player to fifty in a Men's Hundred final. He eventually struck seven sixes in an outstanding 72 from 38 deliveries.
Seifert's innings was eventually ended with Manchester needing 23 runs from 22 balls, giving Trent Rockets one final opportunity to force a dramatic comeback.
Jos Buttler contributed 23 from 14 balls, while Leus du Plooy remained unbeaten on 27 from 18 deliveries to keep Manchester within touching distance.
Liam Dawson Delivers the Winning Blow
The Rockets briefly threatened to turn the match around when Heinrich Klaasen was dismissed by Mohammad Amir before Michael Bracewell fell for a second-ball duck.
Suddenly, Manchester needed three runs from the final five deliveries.
The pressure increased further when Liam Dawson missed twice against Ben Sanderson, but the experienced all-rounder kept his composure.
With two balls remaining, Dawson launched Sanderson over deep midwicket for a six, sending Manchester Super Giants into celebration and securing their maiden Hundred championship.
The winning moment capped a memorable final for a side that had appeared to be out of contention only days earlier.
Noor Ahmad Turns the Final in Manchester's Favour
Earlier, Trent Rockets struggled to build momentum after being asked to bat first.
Ben Duckett and Finn Allen put together a 48-run opening partnership, but the introduction of Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad completely changed the contest.
Noor removed both openers within four deliveries, reducing Trent from 48 for no loss to 52 for two.
Aneurin Donald then launched an aggressive counterattack, scoring 38 from just 19 balls. His attacking strokeplay briefly restored momentum, but the Rockets soon suffered another collapse.
A frantic middle period saw Trent lose five wickets for 47 runs, including captain Sam Billings, who was run out during a mix-up.
Noor completed an outstanding spell of 3 for 33, while the Super Giants' bowlers kept the pressure on throughout the innings.
Rockets Recover Through Late-Order Power
At 97 for 5, Trent Rockets appeared in danger of posting a below-par total.
Lewis Gregory and Mitchell Santner, however, produced an important recovery partnership.
Gregory smashed 32 from 16 balls, including several powerful boundaries, while Santner contributed an unbeaten 20 from 16 deliveries.
Late runs from Santner and Jamie Overton pushed the Rockets to 158 for 8 from their 100 deliveries.
Given the relatively difficult Lord's surface, where the average first-innings score during the tournament was around 141, 158 represented a competitive total.
However, Seifert's extraordinary innings ultimately proved the difference.
Buttler's Leadership Completes a Remarkable Turnaround
The title was also a significant achievement for Jos Buttler, who took over the Manchester captaincy after Aiden Markram left the tournament for personal reasons.
Under Buttler's leadership, Manchester transformed their campaign.
The addition of Paul Walter at the top of the order proved particularly important, with his aggressive approach complementing Seifert's explosive batting.
Walter finished the tournament with 247 runs from five innings at a strike rate of 179, while Seifert ended the competition as the second-highest run-scorer with 394 runs.
Buttler praised the entire squad after the final, highlighting the team's bowling depth and the contributions from players throughout the tournament.
Manchester Finally End Their Wait for a Trophy
The triumph at Lord's represents a landmark moment for Manchester Super Giants.
The franchise had previously reached the Men's Hundred final twice without winning the trophy. The latest victory finally erased those disappointments and delivered their first Hundred title.
It was also the first time either Manchester franchise — men's or women's — had won a Hundred trophy.
From three consecutive group-stage defeats to five straight victories and a championship at Lord's, Manchester Super Giants completed one of the most dramatic turnarounds in the tournament's history.
