Hardik Pandya CSK trade rumours dismissed as Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians issue official responses
Rumours surrounding a potential Hardik Pandya CSK trade have dominated the IPL offseason, but Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have now firmly denied reports linking the Mumbai Indians captain with a sensational move ahead of IPL 2027. At the same time, Mumbai Indians (MI) have also confirmed that no player trade discussions are currently taking place, insisting that any decisions will only be made after completing their post-season review.
The speculation intensified following Mumbai Indians' disappointing IPL 2026 campaign, with several reports suggesting Pandya could leave the franchise after another difficult season as captain. However, both franchises have now attempted to calm the growing rumours.

CSK CEO dismisses Hardik Pandya rumours
Speaking from the United States, where CSK's management is overseeing the franchise's Major League Cricket (MLC) commitments with Texas Super Kings, CEO Kasi Viswanathan categorically rejected claims that Chennai are pursuing the India all-rounder.
"We have not had any discussion. The season review will only happen after the MLC is completed," Viswanathan said.
He further stressed that CSK have not spoken with either Pandya or Mumbai Indians regarding any possible transfer and described the reports linking the franchise with the star all-rounder as untrue.
The Chennai management has yet to begin its IPL 2026 review, meaning any recruitment plans for the 2027 season remain on hold until after the MLC campaign concludes.
Viral interaction sparked speculation
The latest round of rumours gathered momentum after a video showing Pandya in an extended conversation with Viswanathan following an IPL match at Chepauk circulated widely on social media.
Many fans interpreted the interaction as evidence that transfer talks were underway.
However, CSK officials dismissed those assumptions, pointing out that similar post-match conversations have occurred in previous seasons. Last year, Viswanathan was also seen chatting with Sanju Samson, leading to similar speculation before unrelated transfer stories emerged.
While fans continue to analyze the footage, CSK insist there is no connection between the conversation and any transfer plans.
Mumbai Indians yet to decide Pandya's future
Mumbai Indians have also adopted a cautious approach, confirming that the franchise has only recently begun its comprehensive review of the disappointing IPL 2026 campaign.
An MI spokesperson stated that the management is evaluating every aspect of the team before making decisions regarding player retention or possible trades.
"We have just begun our post-season review and will look into all aspects of the team. A range of options and ideas will be evaluated before any decisions are made regarding players."
The franchise also clarified that it is not currently engaged in any conversations regarding player trades, emphasizing that such discussions can only begin once the internal review process has been completed.
Why Pandya's future is under scrutiny
Pandya's future has become one of the biggest talking points heading into IPL 2027 after Mumbai Indians endured one of the poorest seasons in franchise history.
The five-time IPL champions finished ninth in the standings after collecting just eight points from 14 matches, missing the playoffs for the second time in three seasons under Pandya's leadership.
Although Mumbai reached the playoffs in 2025, the disappointing 2026 campaign has naturally fueled speculation about possible changes to both the squad and leadership structure.
Pandya's brief social media activity, including reportedly unfollowing Mumbai Indians before restoring the connection, only added further intrigue among fans.
Multiple IPL franchises monitoring the situation
While CSK have publicly denied any current interest, reports suggest several franchises are closely monitoring Pandya's situation.
Kolkata Knight Riders are believed to have shown significant interest and are reportedly among the teams exploring possible options should Mumbai decide to entertain offers.
Rajasthan Royals have also been linked, with speculation surrounding a potential swap involving Yashasvi Jaiswal. However, such a deal appears unlikely given Rajasthan's long-term plans around Riyan Parag as a future leader.
Delhi Capitals have also been mentioned as a possible destination if Pandya eventually becomes available.
Despite these reports, there is currently no indication that Mumbai Indians have formally placed Pandya on the trade market.
MI review will determine next steps
Sources close to Mumbai Indians indicate that the franchise's season review is more extensive than in previous years.
The management is currently assessing reports submitted by the coaching staff while also reviewing the performances of players and support personnel before making any major strategic decisions.
Only after that process is complete will Mumbai determine whether trading Pandya—or any other senior player—is in the franchise's best interests.
Trade rumours remain speculative
Although both CSK and MI have denied that negotiations are taking place, neither franchise has completely ruled out future possibilities.
CSK's statements only confirm that no discussions have occurred at this stage, while Mumbai have maintained that every option will be considered after their review concludes.
For now, Hardik Pandya remains a Mumbai Indians player, and any potential move ahead of IPL 2027 remains purely speculative until both franchises finalize their plans later in the offseason.
